Every now and then we like to go for a car ride to Roxbury just to see what's changing on Route 28, visit the sturdy wooden playground in Kirkside Park near the church in town, and look for a place to eat. I stopped by the Bread & Breakfast coffee shop in Arkville on the way there, but it was around 2pm, and they were closing. The coffee pots were empty. I will have to check out their waffles and omelets another day.
I 've driven past Cassie's Cafe in Roxbury many times, but we usually get there after it closes around 3pm. Today we were smart and started out early, and enjoyed a late lunch there at 2:30 pm. Lunch was yummy and inexpensive. The bill was $20 for the four us.
The kids loved the grilled cheese sandwich, turkey chowder, and the teddy bear pancake. My husband had the Hubble sandwich (grilled cheese with 3 melted cheeses and grilled onions). He gave me a bite. It reminded of the diner grill cheeses I used to eat as a kid. I love an old-school grilled cheese sandwich that is good and buttery! The service was friendly. It wasn't crowded, but our server said that it does get busy there during lunch time. I believe that as this is the only restaurant in Roxbury, as far as I know. (If you know of another restaurant in Roxbury, please let Hudson Valley Good Stuff know!) Cassie's Cafe is a cute cozy place though, and we will definitely be coming back.
As we were driving around Roxbury, we passed the Roxbury Motel, and saw a cute couple on location for a post-wedding shoot. (I hope it was post-wedding because I said, "Congratulations!") I love the snowboard props for the scene so I asked them if I could take their photo, and they graciously agreed. Maybe they met on the slopes? I didn't get their names, but they were very sweet. Wishing you a happy and healthy life together Mr. & Mrs. Roxbury snowboarding couple! Isn't the Hudson Valley a beautiful place to get married? Speaking of weddings, I will be at the Wedding Expo at Diamond Mills Hotel and Tavern on March 3rd, not as a bride, but as a curious blogger. It should be fun!
