Scenes from the Pickle Festival in Rosendale: Pickle lovers crowd the Rosendale Recreation Center

Raise your hand if you survived the Pickle Festival? I got there around 2:30 pm and the place was packed with pickle lovers. It took me a while to find the actual pickles, but once I did I was in a for tasty free samples. I ended up buying a jar of bread and butter pickles from the Stretch Pickle vendor. Delicious! I felt a bit claustrophobic at times with the crowds, but over all it was a fun time. With the freak 66 F degree day, it is too bad we couldn't all enjoy the festival in an outdoor venue.  Next year, I will try be an early bird and beat the crowds.

The Thoughts a Seattle Orchestral-Folk Trio to play at Market Market on November 12th!

 

The Thoughts will be performing on November 12th at Market Market in Rosendale as part of their acoustic tour. In case you haven't heard of them, here is a link to The Thoughts website and a press blurb.

You Here, this year and it has been branded “a primer in mainstream folk-pop” (Coke Machine Glow). The band may be rooted in the familiar sound palette of violin, vocal, guitar, and drums, but this trio’s dynamic and inventive performance sets them apart from their contemporaries. Ian Williams wields a Yorke-ian falsetto that tells his stories with a mix of savagery and sweetness, at times whispering honeyed words in the ear and at others wailing in reckless abandon.
The band also features, percussionist, Jon Horwatch and, violinist, Katie Mosehauer. They will perform at Market Market Cafe on November 12. 

Dinner and a Movie: Date Night in Rosendale at the Bywater Bistro

After seeing "The Off Hours" at the Rosendale Theater as part of the Woodstock Film Festival, my husband and I decided to eat at Bywater Bistro. There were a lot of people hanging out at the bar, and at first I thought we'd be the only ones eating there. The server asked us if we wanted to eat outside, and we were delighted to find this little oasis in the back of the restaurant.  It is very tranquil back there, but the sound of the creek is loud enough that you can't hear your neighbor's conversation too well.

 I started with fried tofu sticks in sesame terrayaki sauce. This appetizer was outrageously yummy! I don't say that about tofu very often! My husband had the ceasar salad which was also very good. For the entree we both ordered sandwiches.   I had the crab cake and portobello mushroom sandwich and he had the veggie burger. Both were very good!  Bywater Bistro has fancier entrees too.
