Detour: Vnyl Diner in New York City–Pad thai, burgers, big booths & funky decor

I used to love the dining at the Vnyl diner when I lived in Hell's Kitchen. It was 4 blocks away from home and always had good healthy food. I loved the menus pasted on old vinyl records. I returned last week to find a totally different Vnyl Diner. It has been remodeled to accommodate more people, but I think it has lost a lot of its cozyness. The food was still pretty good.  My friend Rene is American, but now lives in Denmark so she was craving a grilled cheese sandwich. Her 5 year old son wasn't feeling good so he just wanted waffles. My friend Nancy got the cheeseburger with parmesean fries. (They charged extra for the parmesean frieds as no substitiutions are allowed, of course).  I remember having Thai food there so I ordered the pad thai.

The portions were very generous.  We were all satisfied with our lunch. The Vnyl Diner doesn't have a kids menu, and isn't very kid friendly with the exception of the large booths.  I do love the circular booths though.  Great Hell's Kitchen restaurant  to meet up with friends who have different tastes in food. They also have cool cocktails named after celebrities. It was lunch time though too early for cocktails for me!  Vnyl Diner, 754 9th Avenue @ 51st Street, New York, NY. (212) 974-2003
