Hudson Valley Good Stuff recently joined the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce & Arts so I decided to check out the chamber mixer at Maverick Concerts last Thursday night. I went to a concert here about 8 years ago with my father. At the mixer I learned that Maverick Concerts is the oldest summer chamber music festival in America, and is starting its 97th season this summer. If you love listening to live classical music in the woods, check out Maverick Concerts schedule here and buy a ticket.
The highlight of the evening was a 3 song performance by Perry Beekman and Lou Pappas who will be performing in "Cole Porter in Paris" on Saturday, July 28th at 6:30pm. (Jazz 2012 Jazz: Perry Beekman, vocals and guitar; Terri Blaine, vocals; Peter Tomlinson, piano; Lou Pappas, bass). I also enjoyed the wine tasting courtesy of Woodstock Wine and Liquors.
About 30-40 people attended the mixer, a mix of artists, non-profits, local business people, including notable writer Jane Brody, health columnist of the New York Times, and Baker Rorick, organizer of the Luthiers Woodstock Invitational Showcase Festival. (If you are a stringed-instrument fan, save the date for this fabulous niche event at Bearsville Theater October 26-29th, 2012). I also enjoyed the wine tasting provided by Woodstock Wines. If you are looking for a fun and affordable night out in Woodstock, take in a concert here at the Maverick.
Here is a nice article in The New York Times on July 1st about Maverick Concerts written by Phillip Lutz.
