I have been going to Grant Avery Park in Shokan NY for a few years now. It is a bit off the beaten path on Route 28, but worth the ride if you are looking for a quiet place for the kids to play that has good solid equipment for toddlers and big kids. It is a small playground, but I love the woodsy setting.
Before we knew the name of it, we would just say, "Let's go where the bears play" because it looks like the kind of place where you might see a bear hanging out. (No bear sightings yet though!) The swings are relatively new and can hold a 180-pound man. You have to be a resident of Olive to reserve the pavillon space for a speical event for a fee. Grant Avery Park, Bostock Mountain Road & Route 28, Shokan, NY. What is your favorite playground in Ulster County?
P.S.--If you really want to spoil the kids stop by nearby Winchell's Pizza on Route 28 in Shokan. They've got great pizza and homemade chocolate chip cookies that will give you a real good Hudson Valley sugar rush!
